Somalia's largest telco announces plans to extend 4G network

Somalia's largest telecoms operator, Hormuud Telecom, has announced expansion plans. The telco is aiming to expand 4G network access across the country by 2023. Millions of rural Somalis still rely on Hormuud's 2G network. Hormuud began expanding its 4G network capacity in 2015 in partnership with the Somali ministry of telecommunications, which estimates that 70% of Somalia's 15 million population now have access to 4G internet. Hormuud's aim for total 4G expansion is in line with current government commitments. The government's National ICT Policy pledges to reach total 4G coverage between 2024 and 2025.
