A steep learning curve at a top consulting firm such as McKinsey, BCG or Bain is what many candidates aspire to when applying as a consultant. Consulting is often depicted as an industry where you have to grow your business and personals skills fast in order to climb its steep learning curve. While climbing the consulting learning curve may be challenging, it is also believed that the skills you acquire on the way will benefit you well-beyond your consulting career.
The frequently changing projects and many working hours certainly contribute to the steep learning curve, but consulting firms themselves make sure that consultants have to move continuously on their learning curves: Every few years consultants are expected to take the next step on the consulting career ladder and adopt a new role that comes with new tasks and responsibilities: The job requirements on the consulting career path for (Junior and Senior) Consultants, Project Managers, Junior Partners and Senior Partners signifiantly differ from each other, with the idea to constantly challenge and encourage the consultants to continue learning.
