If your helium tank becomes old or empty, you may realize that you are unsure of how to safely dispose of it. Here's a quick guide on how to safely dispose of your helium tank.
The supplies you need are a hammer, flat-head screwdriver, permanent marker, protective gloves, and safety glasses.
1. Fully open the valve on the tank.
2. Push down on the nozzle until the tank is empty. The tank is empty when the hissing sounds stops.
3. Unscrew the valve nut and remove the nozzle.
4. Puncture the rupture disc located on the shoulder of the tank.
5. Remove the disc.
6. Write “empty” on the tank.
7. Place the helium tank next to your garbage cart on your pickup day.
