Immigration Minister Alex Hawke says it is currently a “very complex and difficult situation” on the ground in Kabul for all the international forces and officials that are trying to move people from the capital to other destinations.
“From Australia’s perspective, we have our ADF personnel on the ground now,” Mr Hawke told Sky News Australia.
“We have planes at our air base in Al Minhad that will be able to establish an air-bridge to Kabul.
“And we are working with officials on the ground, given it’s a very complex environment, to get planes in and out and rescue as many people as we can.”
