NEA conducting two-year study on marine litter, microplastics in Singapore's waters

The National Environment Agency is stepping up its beach-cleaning efforts as the monsoon season brings more trash to Singapore's coast. Over the last two years, the agency cleared an average of 3,500 tonnes of marine debris each year. There are challenges in identifying the source of the litter. Minister of State Desmond Tan said that's because there are no internationally accepted standards to determine it. He added that most of the trash is brought in by natural tidal waves.
