My Mother and I were at the Pacific Centre Mall food court sitting at the table next to the likely homeless guy with a mental illness who was peacefully resting his head on the table and not bothering anyone when a gang of Cadillac Fairview Pacific Centre security guards approached him and proceeded to aggressively harass him and would have probably unjustly physically removed him from the mall if they had not been recorded.
The probable homeless guy was not being aggressive, belligerent, or causing a disturbance in any way that would have justified him being approached by 3 or so guards attempting to intimidate him into leaving the mall then escalating for no reason and calling the police on him as if he were some violent criminal and endangering his life probably knowing that police are not equipped to deal with people that have a mental illness and it could very easily have become a dangerous situation as many people with a mental illness have been among other things unlawfully arrested, injured and killed by cops.
Cadillac Fairview security guards specifically some of the guards at the Pacific Centre mall have a history of racial profiling, harassing and intimidating likely homeless people that have a mental illness, being improperly trained, being overly aggressive and sometimes violent, and so forth.
Two Vancouver Police showed up at the mall and it was explained to them that the guy resting at the table had committed no crime, amd there was no justifiable reason to remove him from the mall and that they would be recorded. They were cordial with the guy but likely because they knew they were being recorded. If not for being recorded the outcome might have been much different such as the guy being kicked out from the mall or being unlawfully arrested.
Cadillac Fairview should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for the obvious discrimination they show towards people that might be homeless or have a mental illness. it appears that the security receives directives from supervisors, managers, and so on to unjustly target groups including probable homeless people with a mental illness, Aboriginals, and People of Color.
The Vancouver Police should be ashamed of themselves as well for even responding to such a irresponsible, unnecessary, summoning of the cops.
I emailed Cadillac Fairview Pacific Centre Senior Security Manager Brent Findley, another security manager named Jay Besic was talked to as well and one of the other managers outlining our concerns of the multiple incidents we observed and were recorded of security blatantly engaging in discriminative actions against likely homeless people with a mental illness and behavior that would qualify as racial profiling and it seems that the problem guards were not held accountable and corrective measures were not taken to ensure that security did not behave inappropriately and maintained a high level of professionalism.
The Cadillac Fairview management and leadership are complicit if they do not hold the guards to a high standard and allow abhorrent behavior such as racial profiling or aggressive discrimination against likely homeless people with a mental illness to continue unabated.
If you or someone you know has experienced racial profiling, discrimination, harassment and intimidation, or any kind of misconduct from a Cadillac Fairview security guard it is strongly encouraged that you file a Human Rights Complaint which some people have done and won against Cadillac Fairview security, another option is to take legal action which can be done along with a Human Rights Complaint and or file a complaint with the Operations Manager or the Senior Securoty Manager whose names and contact information is:

Security reform is just as important as police reform as there are probably hundreds or thousands of incidents involving security where among other things someone unjustly gets injured, falsely has the police called on them, faces harassment, aggression, and intimidation, as well as being racially profiled or discriminated against for having a mental illness or being homeless.
