Sam: Whether we like him or not Gavin Newsom was great in the show Arrested Development.
Emma: Who is he in Arrested Development?
Sam: I didn't see it. I auditioned for it.
Emma: You didn't see it?
Sam: I mean I saw a couple of the episodes but I didn't watch it.
Emma: Your friend is David cross.
Sam: And I was friends with will too and I auditioned for and I was friendly with Bateman back in the day. I auditioned for the Bateman part. Oh my god, I got a good story about that. It's very quick. so the creator of that show. what's that guy's name again?
Emma: I don't know.
Sam: the creator of arrest development famous guy. yeah, Mitch Horowitz. so Horowitz wanted Benjamin in a show that he had done like a couple of years before called I think it was like relativity or something like that. and I think he ended up getting this guy eric Schmidt in I think it is the name or smith I can't remember. benjamin at the time told me that Horowitz was really bug and benjamin for this role. and benjamin...and we were just we were he would do this and I would do stuff sort of like this but he was worse. because he couldn't like would just walk away from it he Horowitz was calling benjamin and benjamin changed his outgoing message to like I don't know like a pizza place. like there you go you called you to know pleasant pizza you know leaving your number. and he told me that and then I’m like what is wrong with you? like you like do you have a like what is your problem? so a year later goes by and I go to audition for arrested development for the Bateman role. at that time like that's Bateman and I would go up against each other in roles quite a bit.
Emma: we know who came out on top.
Sam: yeah he did and so I’m thinking about that as I go because Horowitz is gonna be there. but you know because I’m that type of person like I get you to know I try and suss everything out in the possible. and a lot of times its sort of ridiculous to think about that. so I come to the door you know the production office I buzz him it's Mitch Horowitz he comes out which is sort of weird because he's the ep usually they'll send the casting director. and we start walking down he's like sam great to see you and I’m like hi mitch thanks for having me. he's like hey let's get to the audition you're friends with john benjamin aren't you oh no oh yeah yeah a little bit and he's like you know this is really weird but I want him to be in the show that last show I did. I’m like oh is that right I didn't know that. no, he goes yeah he goes and I think that benjamin changed his outgoing voicemail to pretend that it was a pizza place because he didn't want to talk to me. and I’m like really? I mean he's like I’m almost convinced of it. and I’m like hi it's not something I would have i i you know I don't I’m not too sure. and like he knew that benjamin and I were close friends I mean like you know and like as he's like well I really think he did. I would I go into the room and I sit on the spot and go all right you ready and I just the audition was a disaster. all right there we go so that's all she wrote. So you know Jason Bateman you're welcome.
