A pair of female fledglings were observed and filmed on 24 September as they arrived at their begging perch at our Ellen Brook site (the fourth breeding we have recorded for this pair). The affection between sibling immature Masked Owls was on show as they cuddled and preened for one and half hours while waiting for a parent to arrive with the first meal of the evening. Perhaps surprisingly for an apex predator, sibling support is well documented for the closely related Barn Owls, extending to sharing of meals and taking turns to receive food from parents.
