The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, has made access to family physicians a “priority” issue. He has his work cut out for him. In some areas of Montreal, a third of citizens still do not have a family doctor, according to government data obtained by The duty. The average wait time for vulnerable patients is at least a year and a half in four regions of Quebec.
The duty asked the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) the proportion of citizens registered with a family doctor in each region of Quebec as well as the average waiting time for patients deemed priority and non-priority at the access desk to a family doctor (GAMF). The data provided is as of July 31.
