Salt Lake's Train Shoppe - Reworking a VERY unusual hobby shoppe...

In the past, we have shown Salt Lake City's UNUSUAL Train Shoppe... Well, it has moved into an UNUSUAL shopping center, Gardner Village. So now two times unusual?

The Train Shoppe is a bit of Salt Lake City model railroad history. One of those places that sort of evolved into existence. Starting off as a toy train repair shop it grew into a small train shop on 400 South specializing in antique toy trains, mostly Lionel. Many years later it moved to a large store on 900 East, a short distance from the original location but now a full train shop with all sizes and scales and working railroads.

Later still it moved to South Salt Lake where it evolved again, this time adding a huge backspace called Ricochet Canyon, a party space and old west themed area with model railroads, birthday party rooms, meeting rooms, and TRAIN RIDES!

Well... It has moved again.. This time to Gardner Village. The Gardner brothers came west as millwrights. We did a show on Robert Gardner's Millcreek Sawmill and the lost railroad grade of John W. Young.

Anyway, his brother (Dale's great-great-grandfather Archibald) built several large mills around the Salt Lake Valley. One survives. Now a themed shopping center and local happing place, Gardner Village.

And... Ricochet Canyon is evolving into a western-themed mini-amusement park. Ricochet Canyon opened in October of 2021, in time for Witch Fest, Gardner Village's annual Halloween event that attracts thousands of people.

The new Ricochet Canyon was built in just a few months. It will continue to evolve as the Train Shoppe always has. SO... More to come.
