The wave of bad weather continues on Italy. In the afternoon of 5 October, shortly after 3.30 pm, a strong tornado followed by rain and hail struck the historic center of Catania, causing serious damage to homes and businesses. Wounded, umbrellas blown away, trees uprooted, billboards uprooted, roofs uncovered in different areas of the city. Schools closed tomorrow 6 October to allow checks on buildings. This was announced by the mayor, Salvo Pogliese. Who wrote on Facebook: "After the terrible, and unexpected, atmospheric phenomenon, I decided, in agreement with the prefect, to order the closure of schools of all levels in the city, of the municipal parks and of the cemetery, to allow check for damage ". Then the mayor repeats the invitation to be cautious and to "limit travel, to allow emergency teams to work to quickly restore safety conditions". Already on the website of the Municipality there was a recommendation "not to leave the house except for urgent reasons".

There were several sports facilities damaged in Catania and its province by bad weather: in the city sports fields, including private ones, and in Cannizzaro, a hamlet of Aci Castello, the roof of the PalaCannizzaro was completely ripped off. Streets flooded like rivers and uprooted trees, as on the service axis. The most affected area was that of the port-airport. The police, civil, regional and municipal protection, and the firefighters are heavily involved in rescuing. Six volunteers of the Misericordia who were carrying out assistance activities in the infirmary set up in the port of the Etna capital for a sporting event were also slightly injured. The strong wind knocked down the field structure.
