Hubble is in serious trouble after multiple crashes hit the space telescope. It has now been offline for more than a week, and all science operations are suspended. And still, NASA isn't sure what has caused this mysterious glitch.
On October 25, the telescope went into a safe mode configuration. The instruments onboard issued error codes indicating multiple losses. The first sign of trouble with the telescope came at 1:46 a.m. ET on October 23. Hubble's science instruments suddenly issued error codes. They indicated the loss of a specific synchronization message. This message provides the instruments with timing information to respond to commands and collect data correctly.
However, the mission team reset the instruments, and the science operations resumed to normal the following morning. But a day later, the issue recurred. This time, the error codes indicated "multiple losses of synchronization messages." Following this, the science instruments automatically put themselves into safe mode. The Hubble personnel on the ground are continuing to analyze spacecraft data. They also are developing and testing procedures to collect additional data from the spacecraft.
