Even though the Democrats' plan to raise taxes on billionaires has basically been declared dead on arrival by corporatists, Donald Trump still managed to make it all about him. He issued a statement openly pondering if he could still run for President if he moves out of the country (because of the proposed wealth tax) but then quickly said that he'll "stick it out." If Democrats needed motivation to include this provision, there it is, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Well, it looks like the Democrats tax on billionaires, which would have affected less than 700 people in this country, is effectively dead after corporatists like Joe Manchin said, absolutely not under no circumstances are we raising taxes on billionaires, even though Joe Manchin hails from a state that, by the way, has no billionaires in it. He still wants their money from other states and so no tax on billionaires. But before, before Manchin decided to kill this measure, which Sinema was with him, of course, Donald Trump gave Democrats every reason in the world to tax billionaires because he was so angry about this proposed plan to increase the marginal tax rate on billionaires. So basically any income over $1 billion would be taxed at an additional, what was it 23.8%. That's it. Only the money you make over a billion. So if you only make 1 billion and $1 only that $1 is taxed. That's how marginal tax rates work.
But that was enough to Donald Trump off. So Trump issues a statement and he says, I just wonder, will I be allowed to run for president again if I move to another country? No, I guess I'll just stick it out. But most others won't. So for a brief second there, a brief second, Donald Trump threatened to leave the country if we increase the taxes on billionaires here in the United States. If you needed a selling point to convince members of Congress to support a tax on billionaires, that was it. Okay. You're not going to get anything better than, wait, wait, wait. We get to raise taxes on billionaires to fund these great projects that are going to help millions of Americans and Trump leaves America, sign today, like pass the bill immediately. That, that, that's probably the greatest possible thing ever. Donald Trump is no longer an American and millions of people don't have to suffer as much as they currently do. But nope, Democrats decided, eh, we don't want to do it. We don't want to risk it. Can't have billionaires leaving. There's 700 of them. What are we going to do without them? The other part of that statement though, can I still run for president if I, if I move to another country?
He is running for president, folks. Whether or not he declares or just continues kicking it down the road. It no longer matters. Donald Trump is running for president and we need to start treating him as such. So by the way, does the federal election commission, because that money is spending money, that, that, that, that guy, excuse me, is spending money like a drunken sailor and it needs to be watched. It needs to be accounted for because until he declares officially that he is running for president, he doesn't have to itemize his spending, which allows him to pretty much play fast and loose with all of the money that he's raising from all of his supporters out here, millions and millions and millions of dollars, folks. And he's spending a lot of it at his own resorts, of course, putting it back in his pocket that way. Legalized money-laundering is what I like to refer to it as. All because he hasn't officially said he is running for president. Well, FEC, I would take this statement as an official declaration that the man is running for president and start regulating him as such.
