The eruption of the Taal volcano on the Philippine island of Luzon began early in the morning. After a brief release of volcanic smoke and gases, a powerful release of incandescent volcanic material began. An evacuation has been announced from Taal Island, as well as from adjacent territories. Areas such as Bilibinwang, Banyaga, Agoncillo, Boso-Boso, Gulod and parts of Eastern Bugaan, Laurel, Batangas are subject to evacuation due to the danger of pyroclastic flows.
Local authorities warn that in the event of a strong eruption, volcanic tsunamis are possible. All activity on Taal Lake should be banned for now.
