The area right up to the Montecito Olive Garden was ordered to evacuate two days ago. With the amount of rain received Sunday, she should have been expecting she too would be evacuated and planning to get out. The dim prince should have been home looking after his kids instead of doing shots of tequila with Colbert in NYC.
I doubt any non-rescue helicopters would have flown in that storm. I'm southwest of montecito and caught in the same atmospheric river. The fog was rolling and at some points visibility on the ground dropped to 20 ft. Operation under visual flight rules would have been absolutely a no-go.
After Hurricaine Ian they flew in choppers to rescue stranded people. They did not land them ..they stayed in a holding pattern and lowered a basket for people to get in and brought them up one at a time.I saw a lady holding her dog who was brought up to the copter. Not sure how you would handle 2 little kids?
Then there's MM screeching for people to risk their lives to fly a helicopter in horrific weather to rescue her when she'd been told to leave earlier.
